Make a passport photo, right in your browser.

Try it offline
- Open this page once and wait until it says it works offline.
- Turn off Wi-Fi and mobile data, or switch on airplane mode.
- Reload the page. It still opens and still works, because nothing needs the internet.
Developers: open DevTools → Network before choosing a file. Processing makes no requests. Afterwards the page sends one anonymous count (which tool, how many files) to our own statistics server, never a file or its name, and the page's Content Security Policy blocks every other site.

How to make a passport size photo
- Take a photo facing the camera, in even light, against a plain white or light wall. Ask someone else to take it from about 1.5 metres away, at eye level.
- Pick the size, then choose the photo.
- Drag and zoom until your head fills the oval, from the bottom of your chin to the top of your head.
- Download the single photo for an online form, or the 6 × 4 in sheet to print at a photo shop or at home on photo paper.
The sizes, from the official rules
- US passport: 2 × 2 inches. Head 1 to 1⅜ inches from the bottom of the chin to the top of the head. Plain white or off-white background, no glasses. From the US State Department's passport application form DS-11.
- UK passport (printed): 35 mm wide, 45 mm high. Head 29 to 34 mm from chin to crown. Plain cream or light grey background. From GOV.UK. If you apply online, GOV.UK asks for a digital photo instead, and you shouldn't crop it yourself.
- India "passport size": 3.5 cm wide, 4.5 cm high, colour, plain white background. From the Passport Seva instruction booklet. Note that Passport Seva Kendras take your photo on site, and the booklet says computer prints aren't accepted on paper forms. The size is still the one most Indian forms mean by "passport size".
Rules change, so check the current requirements for your document before you print. Each one also sets rules this tool can't check for you: a recent photo, a neutral expression, eyes open, no shadows.
Printing the sheet
The sheet is a 6 × 4 inch (10 × 15 cm) image at 300 dots per inch, the most common photo print size. Print it at actual size: turn off "fit to page" or "fill" so the photos keep their exact size, then cut along the light grey lines.
Questions
Is my photo uploaded?
No. Cropping and the print sheet are made inside your browser tab, on your device. "Try it offline" at the top of this page shows how to check.
Can it remove the background?
No. Take the photo against a plain light wall instead; it gives a cleaner result than cutting out the background.
Will my photo be accepted?
This tool gets the size and head position right. Whether a photo is accepted also depends on the light, your expression and the background, and only the office that checks it can decide.
